River Sow, Tixall
Another new addition for the 2020 season, mainly a coarse venue with some beautiful specimen chub caught during exploratory sessions in late 2019. This stretch of the Sow promises to be very interesting running from below Tixall lock farm, as indicated on accompanying maps, to the confluence with the river Trent at Great Haywood.
Known species here include large shoals of dace that will readily accept maggot hookbaits, quality perch, roach and several good barbel.
There is a side stream that enters the river around two thirds of the way downstream, this area is known to contain good numbers of pike into double figures. Trout and grayling are also present and the lower reaches lend themselves perfectly to fly casting.
Members please note that we do not have access to this water on Saturdays during the pheasant shooting season from 1st October to 1st February inclusive.
